Serving Sustainability with Every Plate
The Knights of Columbus, alongside the Care for Creation workgroup of the Social Justice Committee and the Friends of Jesus ministry, are teaming up to make our parish fish fry more eco-friendly. Together, they're swapping out foam plates and containers for compostable options, replacing plastic silverware with real utensils, and reducing waste by switching from individual condiment packets to bulk dispensers. In May 2015, Pope Francis released Laudato Si’ (On Care for Our Common Home). In his second encyclical, the Pope urges Catholics to be mindful of their environmental impact — The thoughtful changes being made at the fish frys help us be better stewards of God’s creation while fostering a more sustainable community gathering.
