Receiving Jesus for the First Time

First Holy Communion is a cherished moment in a child’s faith journey — when they receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time. It is a sacred encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist and a deepening of their relationship with Him.

At St. Ladislas, children typically prepare for First Communion in the 2nd grade through a process that also includes First Reconciliation. This preparation includes learning about the Mass, the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, and the meaning of receiving Him with a heart open to grace.

We work closely with families to ensure that this joyful step is both spiritually enriching and personally meaningful for your child.

Ready to begin? Email Director of Faith Formation Lisa Belza lbelza@stlads.org to learn more about preparation requirements, schedule, and how to register your child.

For adults or older children seeking to celebrate the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, please visit our OCIA program page to learn more about preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church.

In the communion, preceded by the Lord's prayer and the breaking of the bread, the faithful receive "the bread of heaven" and "the cup of salvation," the body and blood of Christ who offered himself "for the life of the world" — CCC 1355
